Dec 05:
There has been a lot of rumours about increasing the legal age to be able to learn to
drive to 18 years old, as far as I am aware the government has no intention of doing
this at the present time.
Be able to read in good daylight (with glasses or contact lenses,
if you normally wear them), a motor vehicle number plate at 20.5 metres
(about 67 feet) or with the newer style number plate at 20 metres (66 feet).
Hold a signed valid provisional driving licence.
Be medically fit to drive
The vehicle you drive must be legally roadworthy, display a valid tax disc,
and has a current test certificate if over three years old.
The vehicle must be properly insured for its use.
You must display L-plates or D-plates in Wales, to the front and rear
of the vehicle.
You must be supervised by a person who is - at least 21 years of age,
and holds a full EC/EEA licence for the category of vehicle being driven,
and has held that licence for three years.
You must wear a seat belt, unless exempted, and make sure that all seat belts
their anchorages and fittings in the vehicle are free from obvious defects.
Ensure that any children under 14 years of age are suitably restrained
by the appropriate restraint or adult seat belt.
Be aware of the legal requirements to notify medical conditions which
could affect your safe driving. If a vehicle has been adapted for a disability,
ensure that all the adaptations are suitable to control the vehicle safely.
Know the rules on the issue, presentation or display of - driving licences,
insurance certificates, tax discs.
